REBIRTH

     Before I painted this collection, I was over 10 years into my studio practice and feeling boredom in my studio, unsure of what to paint, unable to recall why I even began painting in the first place. I made pieces, painted over them, sanded them down and tried again. In the creation of this collection, I found brand new inspiration, a whole other world of abstract painting to explore. These paintings are energetic, daring, and intense, colours crashing together unblended, improvised lines looping wildly around the canvas. Abstract painting has given me a way to paint with more freedom, unbound by the rules of figuration or landscapes. I can indulge in colour relationships, play with paint textures and mark-making in a way that has me more excited to get into the studio than I've ever been before. Raw, unfiltered and impulsive, these pieces are just the beginning of a whole new era in my painting practice.
